Lisbon Historical Downtown + Jewish Highlights + Belem (Global Empire Private Tour)

The Lisbon City Jewish Heritage and Portuguese Discoveries Historical Private Tour, will provide you an overview of the old Jewish Lisbon History, along with an historical visit to Lisbon downtown and the massive earthquake that destroyed Lisbon in 1755, followed by a visit to Belem, the flat area of Lisbon, famous during the discoveries period 500 years ago.
Although the itinerary can be adjusted during the day, to make shorter or longer stops, this is the standard itinerary:

• Pickup from your hotel in Lisbon (8h30AM)
• Start the tour heading to Belem area
• Belem is considered of the most famous areas of Lisbon, specially during the Golden Age of Portugal, during the 15th and 16th centuries.
• Learn the history of Belem Tower and Discovery Monument.
• Overview looking to the Lisbon Bridge (25th April) and the Christ cross (Cristo Rei).
• Stop at Jeronimo’s in Belem.
• Quick break for a local pastry at the most famous pastry shop in Portugal, Pasteis de Belem, founded in 1834.
• Head to Lisbon Downtown/Center
• Stop for Lunch (1h)
• Pass by Praça da Figueira, the place of the old Lisbon Market with amazing views over the Sao Jorge Castle of Lisbon.
• Stop at one of the major squares of the city, Rossio, famous for the old Palacio Estaus and the Portuguese Inquisition Palace (Today, National Theathre D. Maria II).
• Arrive at the Jewish Memorial, remembering those who lost their lifes on the Lisbon Pogrom of 1506, the big Jewish Massacre of Lisbon.
• Learn from your guide the history behind the establishement of the Jewish communities in Portugal, the escape from Spain and arrival of thousand of Jewish people in Portugal during the 14th and 15th hundreds, and the settlement of the Portuguese Inquisition during the 16th Century.
• Visit the Sao Domingos, close to the Jewish Memorial.
• Head to Praça do Comercio (Commerce Square), passing by the old merchant streets as Gold Street and Silver Street, stopping at the Santa Justa Elevator, and learning the damage of the earthquake on this part of the city, completely destroying one of the most important Jewish Quarters of the city.
• Enter Alfama, de Old Quarter of Lisbon, famous for the Castle and the Cathedral of Lisbon, founded in 1150
• Arrive at the Alfama Jewish Quarter (Rua da Judiaria), and check the impact of the big earthquake on this part of the city
• Depending where your local is located, finish the tour passing by Park Eduardo VII Viewpoint of Lisbon
• Much more smaller sights will be seen during the day, just not listed above
• End of the tour

During the day we will pass by different attractions and stop for pictures.

• Pick-up time is scheduled for anytime between 7AM and 12PM, although this can be changed per request
• Flexible start and end time for cruise ship passengers and airport pick-ups, please advise before booking.

• Pick-up and drop-off can be provided at any Lisbon Hotel, Sintra or Cascais, including also cruise ship terminal and Lisbon Airport. This can be added during your booking (35E)
• Drop-off is scheduled after the tour, although it can be changed if you need to get back earlier – please advise before booking.

This tour includes Private Transportation, exclusively for you.
We work with a recent fleet of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, that are operating every day for your comfort. In case of need, we have other vehicles or different brands/models, including larger vehicles on request for larger families.

CANCELLATION POLICY (Updated)
* We have a flexible worry-free cancellation policy for your comfort – BOOK WITH CONFIDENCE:
– We know plans can change and we accept changes to the original booking for another day/period, if we have availability, without any extra charge.
– Any services can be canceled up to 60 days prior trip start, with two options available:
1) Any amounts paid can be used as credit for future use, to reschedule/postpone your trip up to 5 years time.
2) Refund of 100% of the amounts paid, back into the same card.

* Cancellations between 60 days and 7 days prior trip starting dates: 50% refund
* Cancellations less than 7 days prior trip starting dates: no refund
* Our Guarantee: 100% of the amounts paid can be used to reschedule/postpone the trip, even if canceled between 60 days and until 7 days prior trip starting date.
* No show: no restitution / payment in full
* Tickets for Events or Attractions are non-refundable
* Hotel reservations are non-refundable, unless specified

* This is a private tour and prepared for Full-Day (around 7h/8h), although, if you have shorter time, we can fit it to your needs
* Most of our tours are done using minivans for your comfort (more leg room). For larger groups we have available larger buses/motor coaches. Vehicle type, size, brand or color can never be guaranteed on our regular tours.
* Single travelers are accepted on all our private tours, paying two adult tickets.
* Pick-up and drop-off in Lisbon (Hotel, Airport, Cruise Terminal) is complimentary / Pick-up and drop-off at other locations please inquire. When pick-up is not added, meeting point will be at Sintra Train Station
* Check in is recommended at the meeting point 15 minutes before departure time
